LexAgri is a monthly newsletter aimed at all and sundry in the agricultural industry. These participants include producers, cooperatives, traders, organized agriculture, suppliers of agricultural equipment and consumer goods, etc.
Lex is Latin for ACT and Agri is Latin for FIELD or FARM. The concept has its origins at the Pretoria law firm - Van Huyssteens Commercial Attorneys who serve a multitude of clients in agriculture and are regularly confronted with legal questions. We realized that the questions were not necessarily unique to one client. As soon as we get wind that a matter is of interest to a multiple of persona, we report on it. The aim is not to provide an immediate solution, but rather raise awareness regarding contentious issues. There is no - one fits all - solution and therefore a first consultation, free of charge, will be the next step.
As a commercial and corporate law firm, our focus is on the business sector and practical legal solutions. Topics in LexAgri will address business matters in the agricultural sector.
Topics such as: expropriation without compensation, Black Economic Empowerment (BEE), tax (all forms including, income tax, CGT, tax neutral business or property restructuring), and many more subjects will receive attention. Topics may have multiple facets and therefore it may be that a topic is addressed over several months. For example, BEE will be the focus for several months to come in the first series of newsletters.
